When my first Echo Dot was delivered, I faced many difficulties initially setting it up. I searched the internet but found no guide that explained the step-by-step setup process.
I struggled initially, but now I can set up any smart home device in under 3 minutes. I’ve set up hundreds of smart home devices with Alexa in the last four years.
So, Amazon Echo has arrived at your door, but you are struggling to set it up because it’s your first smart home device.
I have written a step-by-step guide for how to set up the Amazon Echo Dot for the first time. So, if you’re a beginner and unaware of the setup process, this guide will make you an expert.
How To Setup Amazon Echo Dot Quickly
You need a smartphone, an active Wi-Fi network, and an Amazon account to set up your first Echo Dot. You can use the same Amazon account that you use for shopping.
Here’s how to proceed with the setup-
Step 1- Download Alexa App
The first step is to download the Amazon Alexa app on your smartphone. It’s available for both Android and iPhone.
You can connect and set up a new Echo device, manage Alexa settings, create alarms, manage Alexa Skills, and create Alexa routines from your smartphone.
To download the Alexa app, go to the Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iPhone) and search for Alexa. Install the latest version of the Alexa app on your smartphone, and you’re ready to set up your new Echo Dot.
2. Login With an Amazon Account
If you have an Amazon account, please use that to log into the Alexa app. You can use that same Amazon account that you use for shopping.
If you’re using Fire TV Stick, please use the same Amazon account to log in to the Alexa app to control your Fire TV Stick with the Alexa voice command.
3. Add New Device
Open the Alexa app, tap on More, and tap on Add a Device. Here, you’ll see many options like Amazon Echo, Light, Plug, Switch, Remote, Camera, Lock, Thermostat, Smart TV, Speaker, etc.
Tap on Amazon Echo from the list and select Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Plus, and more. Once you tap this option, Alexa will ask you to put your Echo Dot in setup mode.
4. Put Amazon Echo Dot in Setup Mode
Plug your Amazon Echo Dot with the power adapter and wait a few seconds to power on the Echo Dot. Press and Hold the “Setup Button” until the orange light starts glowing. This will put your Echo Dot in setup mode.
5. Select Wifi Network
Go to the Alexa app and select Echo Dot from the available device list. Now, you will be asked to select a Wi-Fi network to connect your Echo Dot to the internet.
Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password. Wait for a few minutes until your Echo Dot is connected to the internet. Once your device is connected, give it a unique name like “Bedroom Dot” or “Kitchen Echo.”
Your Amazon Echo Dot is now connected to the internet; you can use it to control it with voice commands.
How To Use Amazon Echo Dot As Bluetooth Speaker?
You can use your Amazon Echo Dot as a Bluetooth speaker. It works with smartphones, tablets, PCs, smart TVs, etc.
Follow these steps to use your Echo Dot as a Bluetooth speaker-
- Power On your Amazon Echo Dot and bring it under your Bluetooth range.
